Why you should care: If you have ever found yourself endlessly researching a product that needs a certain specification or size, this prompt will help you.
What you need to know: Just cut and paste the prompt below and let ChatGPT help you work out what you need and where to buy it.
On with the story…
“I can’t find a stand to fit that TV,” my long-suffering assistant told me.
Normally, I would have suggested checking online retailers like Amazon.
But this time, I had a different idea.
You see, we always laughed at how people still spend hours on tasks that ChatGPT can handle in seconds.
With a smile, I asked her, “Did you try ChatGPT?”
It was meant as a joke…
Then a thought struck me…
What if ChatGPT could help find items to purchase, especially those tricky ones requiring specific dimensions and specifications?
So I gave it a try.
I shouldn’t have been surprised that it worked amazingly well.
ChatGPT provided detailed guidance on how to find the right TV stand, even though I wasn’t entirely sure what I needed.
Here’s the prompt I used:
I am looking to buy a TV stand on amazon UK.
It should fit a TV with attachment holes on the back 41cm in width and 31cm in height.
Yes, I told ChatGPT the information I knew, and it worked out the rest, see the chat history here.
ChatGPT Prompt For Help With Your Worry Purchase
I want you to help me find {product type} product by searching the web.
The product has to fit this specifications:
{Dimensions, size, weight,
cost, ideally less than £100 etc etc}
If you are not sure about the specification, or if I have described the specifications in a non standard way, please educate me and ask me to give you the specifications in correct way.
How to use it:
Copy and paste the prompt
Update the text in the {brackets} with your product and specifications you know.
When you try it out you will see that if you’ve missed something in your specification, it will help you. It’s just like walking into a specialist shop and asking the expert assistants.
You can also experiment with getting ChatGPT and Bing Chat to find your cheaper options.
I want to buy this product:
{URL or Product name or product number}
Is there anywhere else cheaper online I can find it?
Search in the {UK} and search Amazon and other retailers too.
Here’s an example chat where I’m looking for a Blue Yeti Mic using the item model number 988000229.
Still stuck? Then try using what I call the Stream of Consciousness Prompt.
You talk into the ChatGPT app and explain what you need, just like you would if you asked a person.
Here’s my Stream of Consciousness Prompt that I dictated into the ChatGPT app:
I have a TV and I want a floor stand for it to make it mobile. I need the stand to fit the TV perfectly, but I'm not certain about the measurements or how to determine compatibility. Could you guide me through the process of determining what measurements I need, and then assist me in finding the right product, possibly by searching the web.
Finally, for a bit of festive fun, you can use ChatGPT to help with your Xmas gift buying using the Xmas Gift Finder GPT
Once again, ChatGPT astounds us with what it can do.
So I remind you — think ChatGPT first for any problem-solving, like working out what to buy.
Even when you think it’s a joke.
I also need to remind myself to do the same — or the joke is on me 🤣
