Boost Email Open Rates: Craft 20 Irresistible Subject Lines With ChatGPT in Just 2 Minutes

Why you should care: Tired of sending emails that go unnoticed? Every unread email is a missed opportunity, a potential sale that slipped away.

What you need to know: Learn how to create 20 effective email subject lines in just 2 minutes with these ChatGPT prompts, and then view them in a mock inbox to test clickability.

On with the (short) story…

We're all snowed under an avalanche of emails, aren't we?

The vast majority we ignore.

But some, miraculously, break through our automatic filters. 



They make us click. They gain our trust. They make us open the email and dive deeper.


Great marketers create email subject lines that get opens. 

But it takes skill and lots of time.

Until now…

Before sending out last week’s newsletter, I tested 4 AI created variations of the subject line with a small group in an A/B test.

This helped improve open rates significantly. For example here’s last week email subject line A/B test results:

The winning subject line “Mindset game changer” was nearly 100% better than the worst variation.

That’s a big difference in clicks!

Yet it took me 2 minutes to create these subject lines using ChatGPT.

I’m going to show you how…

How to Use ChatGPT to Create Email Subject Lines

It’s super easy. You just need your headline or title to start and the following prompts.

Step 1. Generate Subject Line Ideas

Don’t worry about understanding the prompt, copy and paste it into ChatGPT and edit the {enter your email subject} part toward the bottom of the prompt.

You’ll get an output like this:

…then you can ask for more variations of the ones you like.

But it’s still hard to visualise which would have the most clicks.

So, let’s make an inbox…

Step 2: Mock up an Inbox for Visualisation in ChatGPT

It’s much easier to choose a shortlist if we can visualise the results.

Use this follow-up prompt to create an inbox mockup from your first list:

You’ll get something like this:

Scan through and see which email subject lines grab your attention. Try it out on other people and also ask ChatGPT which one it likes best to create your shortlist.

Now it’s time to superpower this technique…

Step 3 - God Mode: Improve your subject lines with a huge subject line database

Now source inspiration from the copywriting greats. Here’s how.

Open a new Gmail account and sign up for as many marketing and direct response email newsletters as you can.

Set up an automation in Zapier to grab the subject line of every email that lands in the inbox and save them to a Google Sheet.

Now you have an ever-increasing database of subject lines you can use with the first prompt.

OK, I get it, that’s too much work…

So I’ve already done this for you grab 1258 email subject lines here.

Download a copy of this CSV file, go to ChatGPT Code Interpreter, upload the CSV and run the prompt below, again editing for your subject line.

And just like that, you’ve gone from no subject lines, to crafting hundreds of subject lines, with the inspiration of the copywriting greats, in a matter of minutes. Because you have learned to leverage the power of ChatGPT to accelerate your writing AND your email subject line creation!
